Huge 4.45 Caught at Midmar Dam

Date: 2 October 2010

I threw a EL Grande Hatch Match Stick in Junebug colour on a weight 1
mojo rig, on 12 pound Vicious Flourocarbon…. 7 foot medium rod

I fished a small rocky area inside a small bay off the main dam… thought
process behind this being that the fish should be moving shallower to
spawn…

The hard rocky bottom is ideal for spawning and the protection from the
wind, waves and silt by being inside a smallish bay.. also felt right to
me..

I got 3 small fish in the area in about 20 minutes and persisted further
down the bank… I then hooked that 4.45 kilo fish a few minutes later..

The water was very clear and the fish took the bait in about 8 foot of
water.

The water temperature was 64 degrees Fahrenheit, which seems to be the
spawning temperature/ or very close to it @ Midmar.

The weather was overcast the entire day and there was a light breeze
blowing for most of the day.
